Dear John,

Yesterday marked the 51st anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade , which ruled that the Constitution protected the right to have an abortion. Roe prohibited states from banning the procedure before 23 weeks for 49 years, until a conservative majority on the court overruled Roe in June 2022.

Today, 14 states have outright banned abortion in nearly all circumstances, and 7 states have restricted the procedure to earlier in pregnancy than the standard set by Roe .

I’m proud that Vermont is a safe haven for those seeking abortions, protected not only by state law but also by an amendment approved by voters in 2022 that enshrined abortion access in the state constitution. But it isn’t enough – not when people in other states have lost this essential freedom.

Reproductive freedom is fundamental to the fight for economic, racial, and gender justice. That’s why I will never stop fighting to pass federal protections for abortion in Congress. If you’re with me, can I count on you to chip in a few bucks to my re-election campaign? [[link removed]]
