As you well know, Fulton County District Attorney (DA) Fani Willis is under fire over serious allegations of misconduct. For starters, Willis allegedly hired a romantic partner, Nathan Wade, as a special prosecutor in Fulton County’s case against President Trump. According to a court motion filed earlier this month by Mike Roman, a co-defendant in the case, Wade and Willis financially benefited from the arrangement, including paying for trips across the country. While these allegations certainly raise ethical concerns, I’m far more troubled by the potential misuse of taxpayer dollars.
In Fiscal Year 2022 alone, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office received over $3,875,000 in federal funds from the Department of Justice, appropriated by Congress. On numerous occasions, Nathan Wade was reimbursed at taxpayer expense for alarming services — including meetings with the White House and 24 hours of billable work in a single day. Folks, these invoices are incredibly troubling. If these allegations are true, Nathan Wade is likely in violation of Georgia’s fraudulent documents and false statements statute, and both Willis and Wade potentially violated Georgia’s Rule of Professional Conduct as attorneys.
Bottom line, Fani Willis’ alleged misconduct, corruption, and abuse of federal funds should concern every Georgian — and American. Given this case directly involves the leading Republican presidential candidate, President Donald Trump, it is imperative that we have answers and accountability in a timely fashion. Therefore, I led nearly 30 of my House Republican colleagues in urging Georgia’s Attorney General, Chris Carr, and Governor Brian Kemp to swiftly and thoroughly investigate these alarming allegations. Please know that as a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I will continue calling for oversight of and accountability for Fani Willis’ alleged abuse of your tax dollars in her political witch-hunt against President Trump.
