Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Despite inclement weather and yet another continuing resolution, the CRES team is celebrating two exciting updates on Capitol Hill.
On the House side, the Conservative Climate Caucus welcomed the addition of five new vice chairs: Reps. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), Greg Murphy (R-N.C.), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.) and Jen Kiggans (R-Va.). These vice chairs will work alongside Caucus leadership, Chair John Curtis (R-Utah) and Vice Chair Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-Iowa), to educate lawmakers and shepherd policies that reduce emissions and strengthen our grid’s reliability and affordability.
As chair of the Conservative Climate Foundation (CCF), I am thrilled to see these members step up to lead the Caucus and look forward to our continued partnership. With 84 Republican Members of Congress strong, the Caucus is poised for success as we jump into the new year. Read my full statement HERE.
To top the week off, the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works advanced the Providing Reliable, Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency (PROVE IT) Act – a CRES-endorsed proposal that will prove what we already know to be true: American-produced goods result in lower emissions than our economic competitors. I sent a letter to Senate EPW Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.) and Ranking Member Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.) urging support of the legislation.
Thanks to Senators Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), John Boozman (R-Ark.) and Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) this bill is one step closer to arming American lawmakers and industries with the facts to reward—not punish—the United States’ leadership in emissions reduction and combat unfair trade polices from foreign nations with poor environmental records. As we finish out the first month of the year, I am encouraged by the forward momentum I see in the conservative climate space and anticipate many more victories as 2024 progresses.
Sincerely,
