Friend -
I hope this email finds you dodging political flyers and robo-calls with the agility of an Olympic gymnast in election season. As a progressive mom, I find myself musing on the apparent dissonance between the promises of the American Dream and the reality of our working-class escapade.
They say money can't buy happiness, but I've yet to see someone sobbing in their new Tesla, right? It's like being handed a map without the treasure marked on it; we're all wandering around, hoping we stumble upon the elusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
For years, Democrats have proudly claimed the title of the working class’s BBFs, but have consistently stayed away from key policies that can help reaffirm our so-called-tight-knit relationship. Preschool, heck, Education for all? Healthcare for all? Living wages for all? Affordable housing for all? Zilch.
As the election season gears up, we're all gearing up to ask our elected officials, " What have you done for me lately? " And honestly, it's not looking like a blockbuster hit for the Democrats.
And that has us at PowerPAC, a bit worried.
I'm not an expert, but " Hey, we tried " doesn't quite cut it when you're struggling to make ends meet.
If Democrats want to tout being the champions of the working class, we’re still here waiting for that Cinderella moment where the glass slipper still fits. It's beginning to feel like a political rom-com, where the promises are grand, but the plot twists leave us scratching our heads.
So, as we head to the voting booths, let's channel our inner skeptics and ask the tough questions. Because if the American Dream is a blockbuster, it's time for a script rewrite, and I, for one, am ready to get some progressive actors and actresses on this set .
Here's to hoping our elected officials bring their A-game to the table—and not just in election years.
A progressive mom's musings,
Edil Mari De Los Reyes
PowerPAC is a social justice organization that strategically directs financial and human resources to local and state organizations working to deliver wins in legislative fights, ballot initiatives, and more. For years the money we've raised has, dollar for dollar, been given back to the communities we work with. We've made sure that your investments were being used to build power for our communities because too often we are underrepresented and ignored.
