John,
Yesterday marked 51 years since the Supreme Court issued its historic
ruling in Roe v. Wade — which for nearly half a century guaranteed the
constitutional right to abortion access.
A year and a half ago, the anti-choice majority on the Supreme Court
stripped this right away — and since then the national landscape for
reproductive freedoms has been checkered, as red states (including Texas)
have moved aggressively in enacting draconian anti-abortion bans among
other measures.
While much attention has been rightfully focused on Texas’s own cruel
abortion laws, this week should serve as a reminder to us that our
part-time senator, Ted Cruz has been one of the biggest anti-abortion
cheerleaders in the Senate.
During his more than decade in the Senate, when Ted isn’t promoting his
sh*tty podcast or tweeting the day away, he has been one of the loudest
voices calling for a federal abortion ban, and has even supported banning
abortion in cases of sexual assault and incest.
John, it's high
time we codify Roe. No matter how much Ted and other Republicans try,
outlawing abortions won’t make them go away — it will only make them
dangerous and expensive.
But in order to do this, we’ll need a new voice in the Senate: a
pro-choice leader who will work to protect our rights and freedoms from an
extremist GOP. [ [link removed] ]Can you chip in $5 today to power our
