Friends -
In this moment of crisis it is imperative that we stand together. There are so many people across this country wondering, "What is going to happen to me tomorrow?"
What happens to the millions of people who don't know how they will support themselves and their families? What happens to people who are worried they may have the coronavirus?
We are dealing with an unprecedented pandemic, which is spreading throughout this country and the world. We are dealing with a growing economic meltdown, which will impact tens of millions of people in the U.S. And we are dealing with a political crisis as well.
This is a moment where we have got to be working together and moving forward together.
That is why I would like to hear from you. Not only to hear your ideas for how we can best go forward, but also to understand your experience and how the coronavirus crisis is impacting you.
Now I would like to discuss just a few of the things that must happen as we deal with this crisis.
To start, we need to make certain that everybody in our country who needs to go to a doctor can get the health care they need regardless of their income. This is a no-brainer. It's something that should have happened in our country a long time ago.
In order to confront this crisis, we must empower Medicare to cover all medical bills as part of this emergency. This would not be Medicare for All — but it would ensure that everyone's health care needs in the midst of this crisis would be covered regardless of income, health insurance status, or immigration status.
In addition to the health crisis, we must also address the economic crisis and provide direct, emergency cash payments of $2,000 to every person in America each month for the duration of this pandemic. This will give everyone the assistance they need to pay their bills while taking care of themselves and their families.
We also must make certain that our response to this health and economic crisis is not another money-making opportunity for corporate America and Wall Street. We need to establish an oversight agency to ensure that no one is profiting off the economic pain and suffering of the American people.
In every state across this country, there is a different level of crisis. And every occupation has a different level of concern. But we are all feeling the impacts of this global pandemic, which is why it is important to remember that we are in this together.
By communicating with our campaign, you will help us get a better understanding of what is going on in our country and how together we can come up with some effective remedies.
It's hard to write proper legislation if we are not familiar with the kinds of pain and problems that people all across this country are facing. That is why it is important to me to hear your comments.
I have the strong belief that if we work together — if we do not turn to fear and panic — and go forward as one people, we will get through this. This is the richest country in the history of the world and a country with incredible energy, talent, and resources. We can address this crisis and we can minimize the pain.
Let us go forward together.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
