PRESS RELEASE
Congressman Al Green Addresses USPS Delays with Postal Customers and Calls for Immediate Action
(Houston, TX) — On Monday, January 22, 2024, Congressman Al Green held a press conference featuring three postal customers who shared their concerns regarding the United States Postal Service’s recent delays in the area. Congressman Green emphasized the urgent need for solutions and announced his request for a customer service representative to be stationed on-site at the South Houston Local Processing Center in Missouri City, Texas to address questions directly. Congressman Green also shared the USPS Office of Inspector General audit report on Houston area service locations during the press conference.
Congressman Green stated, “You have to assume that every package is important. Every package may have something that can actually have circumstances associated with a person’s life.” Regarding the upcoming election cycle, he presciently stated, “I am concerned, as I believe the public is concerned, about the inundation of mail ballots that [USPS] will receive and or mail related to the election that they will receive. And I want to make sure that this flows as it should – timely and appropriately.”
Congressman Green stated that he has requested an appointment with the Office of the Inspector General to bring attention to these issues and obtain feedback on potential improvements. If significant progress is not achieved, the Congressman indicated the possibility of pursuing a congressional oversight hearing to address USPS’ handling of delayed deliveries. The Congressman concluded, “USPS cannot be a closed society; transparency is a necessity.”
