I teach English at a public junior high school, but on days like today, I often feel like a history teacher as well.

51 years ago today, the Supreme Court passed their historic Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortions at the federal level.

Trump’s hand-picked Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe decision almost two years ago now, and the reproductive freedoms that we’ve counted on for decades were thrown into chaos.

On days like today, my heart breaks for my students who have fewer rights now than I did when I was their age. It breaks my heart to answer their questions, but I always do my best.
