Today marks the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But instead of celebrating, because of the Supreme Court dismantling all those years of precedent with their Dobbs decision a year and a half ago, instead today serves as a reminder that we need to fight to protect reproductive health care rights from extremist fringes.
Just this month, MAGA republicans in the House introduced new anti-choice legislation—they’ve made it clear that if they win big in November they would push for a national abortion ban.
We’re also seeing the Supreme Court prepare to hear arguments in a case that could undo the FDA’s decades old approval of the leading abortion medication—a terrible precedent not just on this issue, but for the whole medical community.
This all falls under the backdrop of more states pushing unpopular anti-choice bans through.
Extremist Republicans are working hard to strip women of their right to choose and I’m not going to stand for it.
In Congress, I’ve supported measures to codify reproductive rights into federal law. I’ve also introduced legislation to ensure insurance companies fully cover over-the-counter birth control without any out-of-pocket costs.
This issue should be between patients and doctors, not politicians and judges.
