News From The Week Of March 16 – 20, 2020

Friend:

In 73 years of protecting the separation of religion and government, yesterday marked the end of Americans United’s first fully remote work week. Like millions of others around the world, our whole team moved to remote working setups to do our part to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

I couldn’t resist the opportunity to promote AU when The New York Times called to interview me for a story about the challenges of taking Washington, D.C., offices remote during this unprecedented time. Click here to check out the article now: [link removed]

Of course, it isn’t just the way we work that is changing. The rapidly evolving coronavirus crisis – and the government’s response – is affecting every aspect of our lives. But we must remember: Even during hard times, we must defend the Constitution. On top of our regular workload, we must now make clear that mixing church and state won’t save anyone from coronavirus.

AU continues to do our diligent work – remotely, for the time being – to ensure local, state, and federal government officials are respecting the freedom of religion laid out by the Founders. No matter the social distance we’re maintaining right now, we are all in this together, friend, and that means being there to support each other as we navigate these uncertain times.

All of us at AU are so grateful for your continued support during this period.

With hope and determination,

Rachel K. Laser
President and CEO
