Hi there —
51 years ago, on this day, the Supreme Court issued its decision in Roe v. Wade, granting women across the United States the right to safely and legally get an abortion.
And we know what happened next — the far-right anti-abortion movement worked for decades to undermine Roe, deprive women of reproductive freedoms, and use shadowy political tactics to convince the GOP to back anti-choice policies.
In 2022, when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs decision, millions of women across the country lost the right to an abortion, a right the women before them had been granted.
Since then, I’ve done everything in my power to protect — and expand — abortion access here in New York. I will continue fighting for reproductive rights and will work to ensure, without a doubt, that those seeking care in New York will be protected.
That’s why I’m supporting the movement in New York to protect abortion access in our State Constitution. If you’re with me, please sign on today in support of protecting reproductive rights in New York.
Women in New York and across the country deserve the ability to vote for their rights and freedoms.
As I wrote in The Washington Post last month, “The health of millions of women is on the line. While our democracy is still intact, let’s unite and take the most democratic action: put the question of abortion access to a vote.”
That’s what we’re doing in New York — and I hope you will join me in supporting these efforts.
Thank you,
Governor Kathy Hochul
