Hello Democrats,

Today marks the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling which protected abortion rights at the national level for decades. Thanks to former president Donald Trump’s extreme conservative Supreme Court Justice appointments, women across America lost the fundamental right to abortion and bodily autonomy – a fact he often boasts about with pride.

Now, Trump is running his second presidential campaign on a promise to “lead the charge” on a federal abortion ban. Republicans want a national abortion ban which would overturn the work Democrats like Michelle Lujan Grisham and Democratic state legislators have done to safeguard abortion access and gender-affirming care.

Democrats still have the opportunity to fight back against the GOP’s push to ban abortion. Our only clear strategy moving forward is reelecting President Biden and Vice President Harris, who are fighting to enshrine Roe v. Wade’s protections by calling on Congress to codify federal abortion protections so that deeply personal healthcare decisions can be made solely between a patient and their doctor.
