One year ago, a gunman used a semi-automatic pistol equipped with a large-capacity magazine to kill 11 people and injured nine others at a dance studio in Monterey Park, CA. Twenty minutes later, the gunman walked into another dance studio with this gun where he was disarmed by a 26-year-old.

Friend, a year after a civilian was forced to stop a gunman with an assault weapon with their bare hands, Congress has still failed to ban these weapons of war. The tragedy in Monterrey Park was unfortunately only one of the record-breaking number of mass shootings that our country suffered through last year – and we are still waiting for lifesaving action from our lawmakers. 

It's been 20 years since the NRA made sure that the federal ban on assault weapons ended and mass shootings have skyrocketed. The common link between the country's deadliest mass shootings is the assault weapon – because it was designed for destruction, to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.

We’ve pleaded with Congress to do something to address our gun violence epidemic, but they continue to fail us. So many lives have been lost to gun violence because our lawmakers don’t have the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and pass common sense legislation like an assault weapons ban. As we mark one year since the tragedy in Monterey Park, CA, will you respond to our urgent poll to help us make it clear to our lawmakers that victims and survivors deserve their action?
