*Game and Fish Commission invests more dollars in mule deer initiative?*

CHEYENNE ?The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission met in Cheyenne last week for its January meeting. The Commission voted to allocate $504,000 in funds to improve mule deer habitat for ten herd units across the state. The allocated funds will be leveraged with partner funding for a total of $4.38 million. *The Wyoming Game and Fish Department and partners will spend the next year improving fences to help facilitate animal movement, treating for invasive grasses and restoring riparian habitat across the state. CHEYENNE ? Over the last two decades elk populations have thrived in Wyoming. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department estimates the population of elk in the Cowboy State to be about 109,000. *In some areas of the state, the population increase has caused damage issues for private landowners, and over the last five years elk damage claims have increased by 42 percent on a statewide level.
