Today marks the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark case that protected abortion under the Constitution.
In June 2022, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court overturned Roe . In the year and a half since, we’ve witnessed the devastating consequences of that decision, which denied women their right to make choices about their bodies and their futures.
Today, twenty-one states have abortion bans in place. In states that criminalize abortion, doctors are caught between upholding their oaths to do no harm or facing prison time, and women and girls are being forced to pay out-of-pocket to travel hundreds of miles to access care or risk suffering life-threatening health complications at home.
Just last week, Republicans in Congress passed two different anti-abortion bills through the House. They'll stop at nothing until they pass a nationwide abortion ban.
The consequences of overturning Roe have been tragic. But we won’t give up hope — and we won’t give up the fight.
Across the country, people have shown up to vote for reproductive freedom. Even in deep red states, like Kansas and Kentucky, voters rejected ballot measures that would’ve further restricted reproductive rights. And in Ohio, voters enshrined the right to choose in their state's constitution.
I’m working nonstop to elect a pro-choice majority in Congress — and to make Roe v. Wade law.
