Friends,

Fifty-one years ago today, on January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court made its 7-2 landmark decision in Roe v. Wade .

The Court determined the U.S. Constitution provides a fundamental right to privacy and protects a woman’s right to an abortion.

I wish today were a day to celebrate this historic milestone. Instead, five ultra-conservative justices on the Court played politics with reproductive freedom and gutted Roe.

As radical right-wing Republicans reveled in the decision by a rigged Court, my Democratic colleagues and I vowed to continue fighting like hell to protect reproductive freedom.

Team, the Court made a bad decision. A decision influenced by the day’s politics rather than the people’s interests. That’s why the fight continues — and I’m not going to rest until Roe is fully restored. [[link removed]]

Republican-controlled state legislatures are jumping on the bandwagon to ban abortion outright in their states. Women travel hundreds of miles to find health providers and clinics providing safe reproductive health services.

Far-right extremists continue attacking Planned Parenthood facilities and threatening medical professionals who bravely refuse to allow these threats to deter them from their work.

Congressional and Senate Republicans are still pushing a national abortion ban, even though voters across the country clearly stated last November that they want politicians out of reproductive health decisions.

Team, we know the tragedy of banning abortion falls disproportionately on lower-income women and families. The wealthy will always have access to abortion, no matter what the Supreme Court or right-wing politicians dictate.

That’s why I’m continuing to fight like hell to fully restore the right to have an abortion. Today, as we remember the historic decision of Roe v. Wade , I hope you’ll join me. [[link removed]]
