Here are some recent updates.
* In a win for voters, a federal court temporarily blocked ([link removed]) a North Carolina law that would have tossed out ballots from some voters who register to vote the same day that they cast their ballots during the state’s early voting period.
* Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (D) appealed ([link removed]) a decision that allows former President Donald Trump to remain on the state's presidential primary ballot after she removed Trump under the 14th Amendment.
* Michigan must redraw its legislative maps, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled ([link removed]) . A lower court struck down the districts for racial gerrymandering. While the state appeals the lower court's decision, it must draw new maps in the meantime.
* Black voters and civil rights groups appealed ([link removed]) a decision upholding Georgia's new congressional and legislative maps to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
* An official in Mohave County, Arizona is suing ([link removed]) to hand count the county's ballots in the 2024 election. A pro-democracy nonprofit wants to step in to defend the Arizona law and ensure timely election results.
* Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes (D) said ([link removed]) that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland and the U.S. Department of Justice are not doing enough to protect election workers from rising harassment and threats of violence, which Fontes argues is "imperiling our democracy."
* The Republican National Committee and Ohio Republican Party moved ([link removed]) to join a lawsuit to defend a state law that makes it a crime for most people to assist voters with disabilities in returning their completed absentee ballots.
Here’s what to expect tomorrow.
* Oral argument will be held in a Mississippi lawsuit ([link removed]) filed on behalf of permanently disenfranchised individuals challenging the state’s extreme felony disenfranchisement law. We will live tweet the argument starting at 10 a.m. EST.
