Today marks 51 years since the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade and affirmed that a woman has the right to choose what happens to her own body.

Tragically, the rogue justices of modern times have taken that right away, leaving millions of Americans without access to the fundamental reproductive healthcare they need. Women in states like Texas are now being actively prevented from having safe abortions, and Republicans in Congress want to go as far as to make abortion illegal at the federal level.

What the GOP is trying to do goes against everything we value as Americans. We can’t stand for this — and I’m determined to continue fighting to protect these basic rights.

I was honored to be a lead coauthor of California’s Constitutional amendment enshrining access to safe and legal abortion in our state. I’m proud to have received a 100% rating from Planned Parenthood as a champion of abortion rights. And I will always be on the side of a woman’s reproductive freedom in Congress.
