Today marks the yearly anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, when the Supreme Court protected abortion care as a national constitutional right.

Even when Roe v. Wade was in place, we had more work to do to guarantee access to abortion care.

But in 2022, the Supreme Court revoked this right, removing federal protection and paving the way for many states that have since enacted extreme abortion bans.

We can’t let them take away our rights.

Soon after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Michigan voters passed a ballot measure that enshrined the right to abortion and all reproductive care into our state’s Constitution. Now, Michigan is a haven in the Midwest.

This victory would not have been possible without the reproductive justice activists on the ground doing the work to protect our fundamental human rights. With people power, we refused to allow the far-right Supreme Court to take away our right to bodily autonomy.
