Our second president, John Adams, once wrote:
Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right… and a desire to know; but besides this, they have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge, I mean of the characters and conducts of their rulers.
Look at any news and you’ll get more reminders of why that transparency is still so important today, in 2024.
That’s why I’m glad to see Americans for Prosperity Foundation help launch the Right on Transparency coalition.
The coalition is dedicated to the principles of open government and will help further those principles by drafting model policies for states and educating the public.
