Great news, John: Our work helped put North Carolina on the path to victory for voting rights!

This past August, the North Carolina General Assembly passed Senate Bill 747, an unconstitutional voter suppression bill that puts same-day registrants at risk of disenfranchisement if a single piece of official mail is returned to county boards of elections as undeliverable—without any notice to the voter or opportunity to be heard.

In October, Voto Latino filed a lawsuit for immediate relief to stop S.B. 747 from taking effect.

TODAY: A judge granted a preliminary injunction against S.B. 747.

NOW: It’s up to us to continue our nationwide efforts to protect voting rights, mobilize our communities, and make our voices heard at the ballot box.

The temporary injunction is a positive first step to helping stop the voter suppression of historically disenfranchised groups, including Latino North Carolinians, who are more likely to have mail returned as undeliverable due to housing insecurity or living in multi-generational households.

“Same-day voter registration is an important tool to ensure that voting is accessible to all and it must continue to be protected. Our team at Voto Latino will continue fighting to preserve this and other voting rights wherever they come under threat in our country. A robust, healthy democracy demands access to the voting booth for all.”

Voto Latino is committed to combating attacks on voting rights. But the best way to counteract voter suppression is to make our voices heard in an unmistakable way by registering and mobilizing more young Latinos than ever before.

We're working across the country to do just that. Will you pitch in now to power our voter outreach efforts?
