John, I'm Sen. Liz Bennett, and I represent the 39th State Senate District in Iowa (Cedar Rapids).

Last week, far-right extremist Sen. Salmon introduced SF 2037 which would prevent cities and counties in Iowa from banning conversion therapy.

As the only out LGBTQ+ senator in Iowa, this feels like not only a personal attack on me, but also an attack on our entire community and state.

John, together, we can stand up against hate.

Legislation like this has no place in Iowa, and IA Senate Dems will continue to push back against extremism in the legislature. John, we need to expand our caucus in order to shut down bills like this, which is why I'm asking: will you help elect more senators to our pro-LGBTQ+ coalition with a contribution today?

Even though our legislative session just started two weeks ago, the Republicans in the Senate have made it clear that their right-wing ideology is more important than the lives of LGBTQ+ people..

We all know that conversion therapy is not only ineffective, but harmful – especially to young LGBTQ+ folks.

If local politicians want to end this destructive practice, why are Republican Senators in Des Moines getting in the way?

Iowa Senate Democrats understand that outdated and ill-informed practices like conversion therapy are not welcome in Iowa, and we encourage local governments to take control and ban them.

My colleagues and I are fighting hard in the Capitol to bring freedom, accountability, and opportunity back to Iowa.

Right now, our caucus is small, but with your support, we can expand our membership and get back on track to take back the majority. Please, John, join us in standing up to hate and chip in whatever you can to elect more Democrats to the Iowa State Senate >>

Always grateful,
Senator Liz Bennett
IA Senate
