51 years ago today, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution protects the right of every American to make their own reproductive health care choices.

Today, as we know all too well, that is no longer the case.

The extreme, ideologically-driven majority on the Supreme Court overturned this decision two years ago. It was the first time in our country’s history that a Constitutional right had been stripped away from the American people, and the consequences have been devastating.

According to the Guttmacher Institute, one in five patients seeking life-saving abortion care in the United States now have to travel out of state to be treated. Republican-led state legislatures across the country have passed draconian abortion bans — some that criminalize doctors for providing care.

And even this is not enough for Republicans. They want to ban abortion nationwide.

Folks, I can’t believe that in 2024, I have to use my position to protect access to reproductive care, the right to travel for that care, and access to contraception. Unfortunately, that is exactly what I have had and will continue to do.

I will work tirelessly to protect reproductive freedom from extremist, anti-abortion Republicans in Congress, but if we’re really going to win this fight, we need to kick them out.
