Congressional Testimony
The Cost of Illegal Immigration to Taxpayers
Statement of Steven A. Camarota before the House Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, January 11, 2024

Excerpt: Illegal immigrants are a net fiscal drain, meaning they receive more in government services than they pay in taxes. This result is not due to laziness or fraud. Illegal immigrants actually have high rates of work, and they do pay some taxes, including income and payroll taxes. The fundamental reason that illegal immigrants are a net drain is that they have a low average education level, which results in low average earnings and tax payments.

Report
Three Years of Biden Immigration Policies Have Benefitted Criminal Aliens ([link removed])
By Jon Feere, January 9, 2024
Excerpt: Official data from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reveals that the Biden administration has arrested and removed significantly fewer criminal aliens than the Trump administration. (This data comes from both ICE public releases as well as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by the Center for Immigration Studies.) Contrary to Secretary Mayorkas's claim, public safety and national security have been significantly undermined by the Biden administration’s reckless policies, and the threats the administration has created will continue to inflict damage on American society for many years to come.

Unrestricted Immigration Is a Real Problem ([link removed])
By Steven Camarota
Tablet, January 9, 2024
Excerpt: The Biden administration’s continuing effort to conceal or lie about the historic rates of immigration into the country is fast becoming a crisis in its own right—a socially-toxic version of The Emperor’s New Clothes. This attempt to convince Americans not to worry about or even discuss the most consequential public policy issue facing our country cannot be healthy for American society or American democracy.

New York Post, January 21, 2024
Excerpt: Bottom line: President Biden’s reckless immigration policies have significantly undermined public safety and national security, and the threats the administration has created will continue to inflict damage on America for many years to come.

Has Biden Bribed Mexico to Control Border — and Help Him Win the Election? ([link removed])
By Todd Bensman
New York Post, January 19, 2024
Excerpt: Just in time for election year, border crossings have plummeted — a sign that Joe Biden has struck a secret deal with the Mexican president to help his campaign.

Firing Mayorkas Must Be Part of Any Budget Deal ([link removed])
By Phillip Linderman
The American Conservative, January 9, 2024
Excerpt: A key Republican demand in ongoing budget negotiations has to be that Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas must leave office — now. Although President Biden is ultimately responsible for our country’s illegal migration mess, removing Mayorkas, an extreme open-border ideologue, is an indispensable first step in addressing the crisis.

70 Percent (!) Disapprove of Biden’s Handling of Immigration in Latest CBS News Poll ([link removed])
By Andrew R. Arthur
Excerpt: CBS News has released the results of its latest poll, and it shows that President Biden’s overall approval levels on immigration have fallen 12 points since May to their lowest level ever, signaling a crisis for an incumbent seeking reelection on an issue that’s increasingly important to the electorate. Not that voters are happy with congressional Republicans when it comes to the border, either.

DHS Data Dump Shows Why Fixing ‘Credible Fear’ Won’t Fix the Border ([link removed])
By Andrew R. Arthur
Excerpt: The Senate can raise the credible fear bar for aliens subject to expedited removal if it wants (and probably should), but until the administration actually starts using expedited removal it won’t stem the disaster at the U.S.-Mexico line.
