Help is now on its way to the American people. We received the Families First Coronavirus Response Act on Tuesday and sent it to President Trump's desk the very next day. In this package, we increase both paid sick leave and paid family leave to ensure people can stay home to stop the spread of coronavirus, as well as ensure that these measures are funded so employers across the country don’t run into cash flow problems that threaten their businesses.
The closures and cancelations may seem extreme or excessive to many Iowans, but consider this a test of social responsibility and civic duty. Extra caution now can save lives later and we must all do our part to get through these challenging times. Read my op-ed here.
As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, I’m leading a Senate task force to address your financial hardship and uncertainty about the future. We will do whatever it takes to prepare the arsenal and combat the faceless enemy that’s slamming American households, businesses and hospitals. It will include putting cash into people’s pockets to help pay bills and buy groceries.
