Nikki Haley questions whether Trump is "mentally fit" after he repeatedly confuses her with Nancy Pelosi
In her long-shot bid to loosen the stranglehold the disgraced ex-president has on the Republican Party and dethrone the MAGA cult leader, Nikki Haley — Donald Trump's final opponent in the GOP primary — is going where none of her former rivals appeared willing to go before and directly questioned whether the 77-year-old con man has the mental acumen to serve as president (spoiler alert — he does not). After Trump repeatedly mixed up Haley with Nancy Pelosi during a pep rally appearance over the weekend, Haley took dead aim at the serially indicted con man's many public blunders, which the Biden-Harris campaign pounced on, adding fuel to an already brightly burning fire.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: DeSantis shut down live on air by unimpressed Fox News host
Just before finally putting his flailing, disastrous presidential campaign out of its misery on Sunday, Ron DeSantis dragged himself before the cameras at Fox News one last time and attempted to spin his abysmal showing in last week's Iowa caucuses — where he failed to win a single county and lost to Trump by 30 points — into some sort of moral victory for having done things "the right way." Someone get this man a participation trophy!

GOP opens dark money floodgates targeting key battleground seat
Chris Deluzio for Congress: Rep. Chris Deluzio was just labeled one of the GOP's top targets in the must-win state of Pennsylvania. House Republicans know that their chances of keeping a majority in Congress run right through Western Pennsylvania. That's why it's so important that we prevent PA-17 from flipping red. Can you chip in to support Chris and help us retake the House?
Biden campaign readies abortion rights blitz against Trump
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are set to set slam the serially indicted ex-president over abortion rights this week, with their reelection campaign releasing its first ad wholly focused on the topic, built around the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which was unceremoniously overturned by radical right-wing justices Trump installed on the Supreme Court during his disastrous term. "Because of Republican elected officials, women’s health and lives are at risk," Biden said in a statement on Monday morning. "In states across the country, women are being turned away from emergency rooms, forced to go to court to seek permission for the medical attention they need, and made to travel hundreds of miles for health care." Game on.

Ron DeSantis drops out of Republican presidential race, pledges fealty to Donald Trump
Presidential wannabe and tattered Trump punching bag Ron DeSantis finally threw in the towel on his doomed bid for the White House, endorsing the disgraced ex-president in his death march to become the GOP's standard bearer once again. Trump's penchant for abusive — and often times hilarious — nicknames was never on fuller display than with the Florida governor, whom he often referred to as Ron DeSanctimonious. Other jabs the serially indicted con man will apparently have no further use for include Meatball Ron and Tiny D. Unfortunately for Florida, this does mean DeSantis will have a lot more time on his hands to return to his actual job — ruining the Sunshine State with heartless, right-wing legislative quackery and pointless crusades against LGBTQ people and communities of color.

UN chief denounces Israel for "utterly unacceptable" killings as Gaza death toll soars
United Nations Secretary-General António Gutuerres condemned the "heart-breaking" and "utterly unacceptable" killings of Palestinian civilians in Gaza on Sunday, as the number of deaths from Israeli strikes in the enclave surpassed 25,000. In unusually pointed remarks, Guterres said, "Israel’s military operations have spread massive destruction and killed civilians on a scale unprecedented during my time as secretary-general," and renewed calls for "an immediate humanitarian cease-fire to relieve the suffering in Gaza, allow humanitarian aid to reach everyone in need, and facilitate the release of hostages, which should be immediate and unconditional." According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the toll of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks has risen above 25,000, while more than 60,000 have been wounded since the surprise attack by Hamas on October 7, in which Israeli officials say more than 1,200 nationals and foreigners were killed and 240 taken hostage.
Proposed federal law would put limits on use of $50 billion in opioid settlements
Bipartisan members of Congress are demanding federal oversight of billions of dollars in opioid settlements, which state and local governments began spending over the past two years — with some using it to plug budget holes rather than fight the crippling addiction crisis. Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur and Republican Rep. Ashley Hinson re-introduced prudent legislation that would write into law approved uses for the funds so they reach people most affected by the crisis. More than 100,000 Americans die annually from overdoses, highlighting the critical importance of this legislative effort. Kaptur, who has pushed for congressional oversight of opioid settlement funds since 2019, said, "Any effort we can make to try to turn the needle toward treatment, prevention, education, and enforcement is critical. This bill aims to ensure that these funds are used for those purposes and not as a piggy bank for other projects."

Republican-dominated Utah legislature advances an extreme trans bathroom ban
Oh, good. So-called conservatives and champions of limited government are crusading again in Utah, this time with legislation that would make it a criminal offense for people to use a bathroom in a public building that doesn’t correspond with the gender on their birth certificate. So, so glad elected officials are spending time, money, and attention doing the incredibly important work of policing marginalized people's private lives. Just think where we'd be as a society if pee pee cops weren't cracking down on all those wee wee crimes.
