ACLU Supporter, 51 years ago today, the Supreme Court ruled on the landmark case Roe v. Wade, establishing a federal constitutional right to an abortion. Roe allowed countless people to make their own decisions about their bodies during pregnancy. But in the years since, anti-abortion activists have only gotten more extreme in their attempts to ban this essential health care. As we all remember, in 2022, the Supreme Court shamefully chose to overturn Roe v. Wade. The anti-abortion movement's agenda doesn't end there though – they want to ban abortion entirely, in every state. Make no mistake: we're still fighting against an all-fronts attack on our reproductive freedom. Medication abortion is still on the line in a Supreme Court case that could impose severe restrictions on an abortion pill and push it out of reach for people nationwide. And just a few weeks ago, the Court took another case in which anti-abortion politicians wanted the power to send a doctor to jail for providing an abortion to a hospital patient in an emergency – even in cases of miscarriage. This would put countless pregnant people's lives at risk. It's clear that there are no limits to the extreme lengths that the anti-abortion movement will go to prevent people from receiving necessary medical care. As we commemorate the anniversary of Roe v. Wade today in the wake of its overturning, we're doubling down on our commitment to fight for abortion rights. While the anti-abortion movement is relentless, our work is fueled by supporters like you – real people who understand that abortion is essential. We won't stop until every single person has the power to make the decisions that are best for them and their families. With you on our side, we know we can win. Onward, The ACLU Team P.S.
