As a Latino man, I was always taught that three things are certain: God, family, and a vote for the Democrat party.
When I was younger, I believed that, and I took it to heart.
Then I served in Iraq.
My team was ambushed and pinned down by the enemy. Air support was called in. But with the skill of the U.S. military and the grace of God, we were able to make it out alive and won the battle.
After I came back from my service abroad, I saw what the radical Left was doing to the same freedoms I fought for, and I was absolutely devastated.
But I didn’t just sit by idly.
From the moment I truly understood that freedom isn’t free, I became a conservative, eventually a Republican, and now, I’m taking my fight for our liberties to Washington D.C.
My name is Stephen Varela. I’m a husband, a father, a veteran, and a Latino, and I’m running for U.S. Congress.
