Dear Friend --
3- Three
years ago today the nuclear ban treaty became international law. This remarkable
instrument has been joined by nearly half of the countries in the
world. Just last week, we celebrated the 70th ratification, by São Tomé and
Príncipe.
2- Since
then, we’ve had two meetings of states parties, the first one
condemning nuclear threats and most recently the second meeting that
denied any legitimacy to nuclear deterrence as a security strategy.
And we’ve seen the treaty’s impact grow in many different
ways.
1- Today
we are asking you to just do one small thing as you join us in
celebrating this incredible global milestone. Will you help us raise
awareness of the UN Traty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)
by inviting one friend to join the campaign? We have a template email

Hi
NAMEOFYOURFRIEND,
Did you know that there’s a UN
Treaty banning nuclear weapons, today marks 3 years since it’s been in
force, and that nearly half the world’s countries have already joined
it? We hear about the Doomsday Clock being at 90 seconds to midnight,
and the risk of nuclear weapons use being higher than ever, but not so
much about the good news, and what is being done to push
back.
I’ve been following and supporting the work of ICAN -
the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons - a global
coalition that pushed for the creation of this treaty, and is now
trying to get all countries to join it, while speaking out loudly
against nuclear weapons. And today, on the treaty's third anniversary,
I'm want to invite you to join me.
Nuclear weapons put us all at risk, and it is up to all
of us to stand up against them. So I hope you’ll help
me. You can read more
about the treaty, ICAN and how to join the campaign

Thank you,

The TPNW
is the one treaty we have that makes all nuclear weapons illegal, for
everyone, and provides a clear path to eliminate them. This is the one
treaty that recognises the importance of addressing loss and damage
caused by nuclear weapons. This is the one treaty that gives everyone
an opportunity to protect themselves from these inhumane
weapons.
Please
join us, all together as we count down
3-2-1
And say
"happy entry into force anniversary TPNW!"
