Dear John,
Supporting Tax Relief for Families and Small Businesses
This week, the House Ways and Means Committee passed the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024, which will help small businesses grow, boost American competitiveness, and support working families. I am proud that provisions I authored to strengthen the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit were included in the bill, which will provide a much-needed boost in affordable housing supply. In addition, the bill includes numerous pro-growth and pro-family provisions, including:
- Supporting working families with a strengthened Child Tax Credit.
- Expanding innovation and competitiveness with pro-growth economic policies like R&D expensing and 100% bonus depreciation.
- Building up Main Street by cutting red tape and assisting communities struck by natural disasters with tax relief.
- Enhancing the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.
In Congress, I will continue to advocate for policies that support our families and communities in the 16th District of Illinois.

Addressing the Border Crisis
As Congress continues to negotiate spending and the budget, it is critical that the border crisis is addressed in any package. The humanitarian and security crisis at the southern border impacts every community. The Biden Administration has failed to implement policy to secure the border and Congress must act.
I joined Jim Niedleman on WHBF on Sunday to discuss the border crisis and spending. Watch our conversation here: LaHood: Border security must come before larger immigration reform
Advocating for Life
This week, thousands of Americans descended on DC in support of Life, I had the pleasure of visiting with students from Marquette Academy in LaSalle County, Illinois in town to march. I am grateful for their advocacy and leadership. In Congress, I will continue be a strong Pro-Life voice.
Visiting with Illinois Soybean Producers
Thank you to Dwayne Anderson and Jim Martin from the Illinois Soybean Association for stopping by this week in DC. I appreciate their advocacy for IL16 farmers and I will continue to work with our producers to strengthen our inland waterways system, crop insurance, and trade markets.
As always, thanks for subscribing to my newsletter!
Sincerely,
Darin LaHood Member of Congress
