Dear Georgian,

Last week, Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government at FY23 levels until March 1st and avoid a government shutdown.

I supported the CR because it is the better of two bad choices. Now, the government will continue to function while Congress negotiates FY24 appropriations.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Denouncing Biden's Open-Border Policies

Since President Joe Biden took office, there have been over 6.7 million people who have illegally crossed our southern border, and over 1.7 million known illegal migrants who avoided border patrol and got into our country.

This crisis is serious, and House Republicans have taken steps to hold the Biden administration accountable for their irresponsible policies that have exacerbated illegal immigration.

Last week, the House passed a resolution denouncing the Biden administration's open-border policies and urging him to end them. I supported this resolution, and I fully support reinstating Trump-era border policies like the "Remain in Mexico" program.

Standing Up for the Unborn

Under no circumstances should our taxpayer dollars be used to fund abortions. I'm proud to receive an A+ for 2023 on the Susan B. Anthony National Pro-Life Scorecard! I will always advocate for the unborn.

Supporting Small Businesses and Farmers

The majority of our nation's farms and small businesses are owned and operated by individuals and families.

Unfortunately, these multigenerational businesses can be punished by the U.S. tax code through the "death tax," which imposes an unfair and costly tax on the transfer of property, land, and other assets from a deceased family member to heirs of family farms and small businesses.

I joined colleagues in cosponsoring H.R. 7035, the Death Tax Repeal Act, to permanently repeal the death tax and ensure that family farms can operate without the threat of having to pay a devastating tax upon the death of a family member.

Just the News | 'We're not going to be pushed into a bad deal' on border, says House Republican as talks continue

"...Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., said he's looking forward to seeing the final official text of any deal that's reached with regard to border security.

'We're not going to be pushed into a bad deal. If we're allowing 5,000 people to come in illegally, that's not a good deal,' he said on the Just the News, No Noise TV program. 'I'm not sure that that's an accurate number.'

Scott placed the blame on Biden for the record amount of migrants attempting to cross into the U.S. at the border.

'If Biden had not reversed what Donald Trump had done, we would not have had the flow of illegal immigrants that we've had into the country in the last three years,' he said. 'So Biden has the ability to put Remain in Mexico and other measures back in place right now, to stop a lot of the flow of illegal immigration.'"
