John, Bernie
forced the vote, but the Senate voted down his resolution that could’ve
ended U.S. funding for Israel’s war in Gaza last week.
The measure would’ve forced the U.S. government to first investigate
Israeli human rights abuses — but even that went too far for the
AIPAC-funded bipartisan majority in the Senate.
This is not the end of this fight. Congress is still working to pass a
supplemental funding bill that includes $10 billion of unconditional
military aid for the right-wing Netanyahu government to continue its
brutal war against the Palestinian people. Bernie has said, unequivocally,
that it’s time to end all funding for Netanyahu’s illegal, immoral,
brutal, and grossly disproportionate war in Gaza.

Bernie’s efforts to force a vote on Israeli human rights abuses was
unprecedented. And it was courageous, urgent, and necessary as Israel’s
war in Gaza has killed over 24,000 Palestinians.
Bernie did not mince words when he recently said on the Senate floor,
“Much of the destruction that has taken place in Gaza has been done with
U.S. weapons.”
We must all continue the calls to stop U.S. funding and support for
Netanyahu’s atrocities against the Palestinian people. Yet, Congressional
leaders met late last week about sending billions more in unconditional
aid to Israel. It’s unconscionable.
Our champions for peace, like Bernie, Barbara Lee, and Rashida Tlaib, have
been gaining momentum and allies throughout their calls for a ceasefire.
Now, we must ensure there’s a coalition in Congress ready to say NO to
more war funding for Israel.
