I have 15 minutes of free time before my next debate prep,
John. It may
not sound like much — but I’ve been working long hours in Congress to
avoid a government shutdown, and any gap in my schedule is rare.

So, as I’m checking in with my wife, Eve, and catching up on some emails,
I’m reflecting on this campaign — the most competitive California has seen
in three decades — and I’ve decided I need to tell you a bit more about my
decision to run for U.S. Senate.

Throughout my time as an assistant U.S. attorney, California state
Senator, and member of Congress, I’ve always tried to do the most good for
the most people. There is a tenet I’ve carried with me that is central to
my Jewish faith — “Tikkun Olam.” Repairing the world.

Lately, there’s been a lot that has broken, and a lot to fix. It’s been my
cause. It’s why I get up in the morning.

When Speaker Nancy Pelosi tasked me with investigating and impeaching
Donald Trump. When she asked me to help investigate the Capitol
insurrection on the January 6 Committee. I’ve carried that with me.

I’ve carried it with me on this campaign, too. People struggling to afford
the cost of living and or sending their kids to daycare or college. People
struggling to afford their medications. People worrying about what our
climate will look like ten, twenty years from now as we are routinely
ravaged by drought, mudslides, and wildfires today.

Yes, there is a lot that is broken. And there’s a lot to fix.

But there’s also a lot of good in the world, too. The people I’ve met on
the campaign trail remind me why this work is so important. And the people
like you supporting this campaign a couple bucks at a time, so we can do
good work.

That’s why I’m running. And now, our primary race is within the margin of
error just about 24 hours from our first televised debate.

It’s critical that we win this race. We need to abolish the filibuster.
Expand the Supreme Court. Overturn Citizens United. And protect
reproductive freedom.

[ [link removed] ]My 15 minutes are almost up,
John: I
don’t take corporate PAC money, so if you believe in this campaign and
want to help me join our Democratic Senate majority and take the fight to
Republicans, will you chip in
$10 to my
campaign today?
