Friend,
Fourteen years ago the Supreme Court made one of the worst decisions in its history in Citizens United v. FEC. This decision opened the floodgates to allow unlimited and undisclosed dark and corporate money into our elections, and we’ve felt the ramifications of it ever since. We see the implications of Citizens United in the corruption we see on the Supreme Court, in the influx of money into our elections, and in the lack of trust in our government and democracy.
Citizens United and the following influx of massive campaign spending by corporations, special interest groups, and wealthy individuals changed the way our elections function for the worse. The rich and powerful have an even more outsized influence on our elections than ever. Our democracy favors the select few who write big checks and leaves everyone else behind, all due to the Citizens United decision fourteen years ago.
We are fighting every single day to overturn the Citizens United decision and to create an election system that works for every single American, not the wealthy few. If you’re ready to step up and fight with us, please contribute $10 today so we can keep fighting for free and fair elections.
We see near-daily news of the corruption plaguing the Supreme Court, and the root of much of it is the detrimental Citizens United decision. Although Leonard Leo and his cronies have been attempting to buy the Court and other politicians for decades, it wasn’t until the Citizens United decision that they were able to use their billions of dollars to fully buy their influence on our elections and the Court.
Supreme Court corruption, Dark Money spending, and declining trust in our democracy can all be traced back to the 2010 Citizens United decision and we need to work together to combat it. Please chip in $10 right now so we keep working to ensure that our elections are truly free and fair, and not bought by billionaires and huge corporations.
Fourteen years ago our election system changed for the worse, and we’re still learning about all of the repercussions of the Citizens United decision. But we’re not done fighting to keep our elections working for every single American, not just the rich and powerful. We need every single person to chip in $10 today so we can work together to overturn Citizens United and protect our precious democracy.
Thank you,
— Team ECU/LAV Action
