Hello John. This is a longer email, because I’d like to tell you about why I’m running for Governor. Our race is a TOSS-UP — and the most consequential governor’s race this year. National Republicans see North Carolina as a top gubernatorial pick-up opportunity, and the GOP knows that it cannot win the White House without carrying North Carolina.
My radical opponent and I have been neck-and-neck in the polls for months, and our race is rated a TOSS-UP. We expect out-of-state GOP forces to pour money into our state to try to tip the balance. Our movement built on grassroots support can defeat them, but it won’t be easy.

North Carolina is my home. It’s where my wife Anna and I grew up, and it’s where we were proud to raise our family. I’ve committed my career to making this state a better place for all of us.
Governor Roy Cooper can’t run again as he is term limited, and I’m incredibly proud to have his support in the fight to succeed him. We’ve all seen just how important it is to have a Democrat in the Governor’s Office. I plan to continue the progress my friend Roy Cooper has made over the last 7 years. From leading the transition to a clean energy economy to expanding Medicaid, we’ve made great strides under Governor Cooper’s leadership.
But now, our future is on the line.
Far-right politicians want to take us backward. They want a total ban on abortion, to roll back voting rights, and to defund our public schools — among other dangerous, far-right priorities.
Instead of doing the hard work to make this state better for folks like you and me, Republican extremists in Raleigh spend their time obsessing over culture wars and pandering to the far-right fringes of their party.
