EDITOR'S NOTE:

Happy Sunday, John:

Last week kicked off the presidential primary season with the Iowa Caucuses. To no one’s surprise, Donald Trump came out as the victor in Iowa with over 50% of support from the caucus-goers. His victory in the Republican primary seems all but a foregone conclusion. Joe Biden’s nomination seems nearly written in stone, as well, with multiple state Democratic parties canceling their primaries.

The Forward Party will not run a presidential candidate in 2024, nor will the organization endorse a candidate running in either legacy party primary. We encourage and celebrate our members getting involved in the political process, including supporting and organizing for candidates. A more engaged electorate voting in more competitive elections is a central goal of the Forward Party. However, our plans as an organization are focused on the longer project of strengthening our democracy through creating genuine independent alternatives to the candidates and ideologies of the two legacy parties.

The presidential contest is undoubtedly important, but the focus on that race makes it easy to forget about the over 500,000 other offices in the United States. 70% of these elections will be uncontested, with only one candidate on the ballot. That’s not really an election. Forward is here to change that. We’ve affiliated with or supported more than 50 candidates in the last year, and we’re looking to add hundreds more to that number before election day. Politics starts at home. It’s time to focus on the bottom of the ticket, not just the top.

Danielle Chesebrough ran in Connecticut as a Forwardist this past cycle and won the seat for the First Selectman of Stonington, Connecticut. “We were trying to find the common end goal people have or … some area of agreement and how can we build on that,” says Chesebrough about the way she approaches politics as a Forwardist. She comes from a family that has always had Republicans and Democrats, and she believes that a healthy balance can be found as we drive towards results. Read the article for the full interview.

Forward Party targeting local races in PA <[link removed]>| The Bedford Gazette

The Forward Party is focusing on local elections across the country, and 2023 was a particularly successful year for Forward in many states, Pennsylvania included. Two sitting elected officials affiliated with Forward, and three more candidates affiliated with us won their races. When asked what Forward stands for, the state chair Christian Fyke uses “ETHIC” – which stands for building Engagement, Trust, and Hope; Inspiring action, and through all of that, building Community.
