dark money is flooding our democracy

Whitehouse for Senate

Team,

It has been 14 years since the Citizens United decision unleashed a flood of unlimited dark money into our politics, warping our democracy in favor of the corporations and billionaires that have big money to spend and an interest in subverting democracy’s ability to do the will of the people.

The power special interests gained in Citizens United grew even worse in the years since, as dark money groups found more ways to hide their big donors and wield influence from the shadows. That influence has reshaped the country, shifting power away from regular people and toward secretive, wealthy interests. And Americans can feel it.

Oil companies use dark money to stop laws that would make the planet safer for every human being. Big polluters use dark money to stop laws that would keep air and water free of toxins. Gun manufacturers use dark money to stop laws that would take weapons of war off our streets. Billionaires use dark money to pay lower tax rates than school teachers. The list goes on.

This isn’t how democracy is supposed to work. That’s why ever since the disastrous Citizens United decision, I’ve been leading the fight to limit the power of special interests by shining a light of transparency on dark money.

Unsurprisingly, that’s made me some very powerful enemies who don’t want me on their trail. That’s why I’m asking for your help today.

Your contribution helps me push back against the special interests trying to increase their power over the federal government. Your contribution will back a movement pushing to get dark money out of politics once and for all. Your contribution sends me back to the Senate, where I can continue the fight to restore the integrity of our democracy. Can you donate today to support my re-election?

Thank you for your constant support,

Sheldon Whitehouse
