Friends,

There have been 255 mass shootings in America in 2019 alone.

That’s more than one deadly episode of gun violence every day of the year. And the horrific shootings in Dayton and El Paso this weekend only underscore just how badly we need to pass better and more effective gun laws to keep us safe.

The community I represent knows what it’s like to endure the never-ending pain of gun violence. We lost countless lives at a Las Vegas country music concert in 2017 -- and I vowed then to do everything in my power to make sure nothing like what we went through ever happens again.

We know the violence isn’t going to stop unless we act. That’s why when my community elected me to Congress, I fought to pass universal background checks in the House. I also support a complete ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

But let’s face it: Mitch McConnell is a coward who won’t even hold a single piece of gun safety legislation for a vote in the Senate. He has been sitting on this legislation for 160 days. Just think of how many victims may still be alive if he had acted.

We have to keep fighting to force his hand.

Do your job, Senator McConnell. Or get out of the way.
