FIRST: In violation of CDC guidelines around the coronavirus outbreak, ICE agents in Miramar, FL were forcing hundreds of immigrant families to stand in crowded lines to check-in with agents for possible deportation. They were putting everyone’s health at risk and refused to change.
THEN: In an act of courage, Maria Asuncion-Bilbao, United We Dream Action member, called out the ICE agents, demanding that they immediately end this cruelty. You and the rest of our digital community didn’t waste any time to mobilize with Maria, launching a petition demanding ICE comply with CDC guidelines in defense of immigrants and the undocumented community.
NOW: IT WORKED! The ICE check-in facility in Miramar is CLOSED because of our community’s efforts to ensure the safety of our people during this critical time! Those immigrant families can breathe a sigh of relief and the safety of all of South Florida has been improved.
Moments like these are exactly what this team was made for. Because of us, our community will not be put at risk by those ICE agents.
