Jack, if you were paying any attention to the Iowa caucuses, you probably saw traditional media outlets with headlines using words like "landslide," "historic," or "massive" to describe Trump's win.
However, all those headlines are missing a big part of the story—yes, Trump got 50% of the vote, but as a former president and leader of his party, 50% of those who showed up voted against Trump. As Daily Kos staff writer Mark Sumner puts it: The question shouldn’t be why Trump scraped out a bare majority of Republican voters, but why he didn’t win bigger.
The Iowa caucuses were just the first step in the long road to the elections in November. We need progressive and independent news like Daily Kos to not just report the winners and losers, but ask the questions that traditional news outlets aren't asking.
Daily Kos is the country's largest progressive news and activism hub. As we head into the 2024 elections, it's not enough for us to survive, we need to thrive in order to beat the dictator-wannabe Trump. In order to survive and keep fighting, we need your help. Can you support Daily Kos and our work with a monthly donation of $5?
If you can't make a monthly contribution, please consider making a one-time donation to support the work Daily Kos does every day.
Thank you for all you do,
