Did you see Mark's email, John? Already, 23,478 people have signed our petition demanding that Congress make high-capacity ammunition magazines illegal – but it looks like we're still missing your name.

There are a lot of other priorities right now with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic – but that doesn't mean we can stop working to prevent gun violence before it happens. Addressing both issues is critical to the health and safety of everyone in our country.

High-capacity magazines have been used in many of the deadliest mass shootings in recent years: Dayton, Pittsburgh, Parkland, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, Orlando, San Bernardino and Newtown.

That's why we're counting on you to help us reach 50,000 signatures on our petition demanding Congress limit the size of gun ammunition magazines to 10 rounds. Every time a shooter must pause to reload, there is an opportunity for lives to be saved. Will you sign our petition now?

Thank you so much for taking action today. This important work truly isn't possible without you.

Subject: Please sign: Reduce gun magazine capacity now

John,

The person who murdered my sweet little Daniel brought ten 30-round magazines with him to my son's first-grade classroom at Sandy Hook Elementary. He deliberately left the smaller magazines at home.

In approximately four minutes, he fired 154 bullets, killing 20 children and six educators. But as the shooter paused to reload, 11 children were able to escape. I often wonder if Daniel would still be alive if only smaller gun magazines had been available that day.

Now, more than seven years later, Congress has introduced legislation limiting the size of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds – the kind of legislation that might have saved Daniel from being murdered, and the kind of legislation we know would save more children from gun violence. But lawmakers have so far refused to pass it.

More children's lives are at risk every day that Congress doesn't take action. That's why we need to reach 50,000 petition signatures demanding Congress pass this bill immediately. But we're still short, and I noticed you haven't signed yet. So please, will you sign our petition now?

Congress' inaction on gun safety reform is completely unacceptable, and we can't afford to wait any longer. That's why I'm counting on your help to demand lawmakers finally take action to prevent other parents from losing a child to gun violence.

Thank you so much for taking action today and helping me honor Daniel's too-short life. With your help, we'll continue making meaningful change in this country.

Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
