Friend,

Can you imagine a future where our communities enjoy clean air and water, clean energy powers our lives, everyone has access to safe housing and healthcare, and there are enough good-paying jobs to go around?

I can.

And I believe that's a future most of us—regardless of race, income, or background—want for our families and communities.

We exercise a lot of "active hope" here at Evergreen. And sometimes that means looking the stakes square in the eye.

Right now, the stakes are higher than they've ever been.

The modern Republican party, led by Donald Trump and bankrolled by Big Oil, is doing the dirty work of polluters at a time when toxic pollution endangers more than 100 million Americans, especially those in Black, Brown, Indigenous, and frontline communities.

These extremists and their presidential candidates are pushing a "drill, baby, drill!" agenda, even as climate catastrophes—from floods to fires to crop failures—multiply around us.

But it doesn't have to be this way. We are seeing the beginning of a better future taking shape right now.

President Biden has a strong record on climate and the momentum to go further and faster in a second term. Even with a stolen Supreme Court and an ever-more precarious situation in Congress, Biden has advanced the most ambitious climate, clean energy, and environmental justice agenda in history.

He clinched critical climate wins with the historic Inflation Reduction Act, the Justice40 Initiative, the American Climate Corps, and more.

In his second term, Biden can expand on his winning climate agenda and do what still has to be done.

He must do all that he can to hold fossil fuel interests accountable, strengthen federal climate and clean energy standards, remove institutional obstacles to progress, center workers and frontline communities, and enshrine our democratic values in a way that promotes equity and justice for all.

In short, President Biden can and must use a second term to build toward that brighter future we all want.

Let's make sure he gets the chance.

Sincerely,

Craig Segall

P.S. We are fast running out of time, and the next president will take us up to the eve of 2030, an important deadline in the world of climate goals. Meanwhile, the GOP agenda is to enrich fossil fuel executives while spiraling the country into rapid decline, irrevocable damage, and climate chaos. We can make a better choice.
