John,
The legislation that would create a secretive fiscal commission that would put the funding of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and other essential programs at stake has passed out of the House Budget Committee and now Speaker Johnson is looking to add it to must-pass legislation in the coming weeks.1
Social Security is the main source of income for people aged 65 and over and for those over 60 who are in the lowest-income brackets, it accounts for 90% of their total income.
Even though Social Security continues to be one of the most successful anti-poverty programs in our nation’s history, millions of older Americans and people with disabilities continue to struggle. The solution is to expand Social Security, not cut it.
SIGN THE PETITION to Congress and President Biden urging the expansion of Social Security benefits.

Public polling shows that a bipartisan 76% of voters want to increase Social Security’s modest benefits, and pay for it by making the rich pay their fair share of taxes.2 For 2024, the maximum taxable earnings for Social Security is $168,600; any amount earned above that is exempt from Social Security payroll taxes.3
Any cuts to Social Security will not be felt equally. Due to decades of racial discrimination in employment practices, Black, Indigenous, and other people of color not only make less money than white people, but are less likely to have wealth―and jobs that provide access to pensions, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and 401(k)’s―thus making it more likely that Social Security will be their sole source of income when they retire.4
President Biden and Congress can expand Social Security benefits for millions of Americans, extend the lifespan of the program, and pay for it all by making the wealthy pay their fair share.
ADD YOUR NAME to call on Congress and President Biden to expand Social Security benefits now.
Thank you for all you do,
