Sacrificing the Elderly or Making Sacrifices FOR Them? How the COVID-19 Crisis Shows the Value of All Human Life

hands_bible.jpeg

Times of crisis often bring what we really believe to the surface. Our actions in the midst of an emergency tend to reveal where our priorities lie and what is most valuable to us, and it is in these moments that treasuring human life proves essential because it is those who are most vulnerable who are at risk. To be pro-life is to care for all of life, from conception until natural death. It is to see that the worth of every individual is rooted in the fact that they are stamped with the image of our Creator, and created and loved by him. Because every life is valuable, every individual ought to be treated with care and dignity, regardless of their age or ability. When we value life, we are willing to inconvenience ourselves for the sake of the people around us.

In the past week, we’ve seen communities mobilize to protect those who are at high risk of serious illness or death from COVID-19. Grocery stores are setting aside designated times for elderly and at-risk shoppers, while churches and communities are mobilizing to meet needs that have arisen in the past week.

Tragically, our society isn't always consistent in its care for the most vulnerable. Our culture is increasingly embracing the lie that some lives are more valuable than others. Disregard for the value of life anywhere leads to disregard for the value of life everywhere. Arguments for abortion on the basis of disability are based on the same lies that feed the euphemistically-termed “death with dignity” movement. Both are based on the idea that a person’s worth is determined by what they are able to contribute to society, and ultimately lead to chilling calculations in which a person’s death is seen as more valuable than their life. MFC is collecting resources for churches and communities in Minnesota affected by COVID-19. Watch our video above to get a sense of what we're working to do, and then check out our resources for churches here.

We’re creating a stockpile of online resources for pastors and churches as you (1) seek to keep your family and congregation safe, and (2) seek to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world (cf. 1 Corinthians 12:15-26) for those who are sick, poor, and at-risk. Check it out!

Registration is now open for our biggest event of the year - our annual dinner with pro-life superstar Abby Johnson. Abby's work with And Then There Were None, a charity that helps abortion workers leave the industry, has been hugely successful. And her new initiative, Love Lines, gives financial support to women who choose LIFE.

But her story began in 2009, when she was a clinic director for Planned Parenthood and had to witness, for the first time, an ultrasound-guided abortion. With horror, she saw for the first time what abortion really is: the killing by dismemberment of a baby. She walked away and has been working to save lives ever since. Her book Unplanned was turned into one of last year's most surprising hit movies.

Please know that we will comply with all directives from city and state governments regarding large events, and we are committed to doing what we need to do for the safety of our friends and guests. If the status of our Annual Dinner scheduled for May 11 changes, we will alert you as soon as possible.
