By Marc Elias

Here are some recent updates.
* The Louisiana Legislature passed ([link removed]) a bill that would create a new congressional map, which features two majority-Black districts, after being ordered to do so by a court order. It now awaits the expected signature of Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R).
* The Arkansas Supreme Court will hear oral argument in a lawsuit ([link removed]) from a "voter integrity" group seeking to ban electronic voting machines in the state. A lower court had dismissed the case.
* Two voters sued ([link removed]) the Maryland Board of Elections, arguing that a new regulation is illegally prohibiting them from accessing voter registration records and using them to go door-to-door to question voters to "verify" the "accuracy" of the records.
* While Alabama will have a fair congressional map with two Black-opportunity districts in place for the 2024 elections, a trial has been scheduled ([link removed]) to begin on Feb. 3, 2025 on the legality of the previous Republican-drawn map for future elections.

Here’s what to expect coming up.
* Monday is an order day for the Supreme Court. We are looking out for a congressional redistricting case from Arkansas ([link removed]) and legislative redistricting cases from Washington ([link removed]) and Michigan ([link removed]) .

This morning we released a previously-recorded interview with Daryl Atkinson from Carolina Forward on YouTube in newly available video form. Watch it here ([link removed]) and subscribe to our channel here ([link removed]) .
