Howdy Texan –

As we head into the weekend, I thought it would be a great time to give an update on my work for TX-31 in Congress.

ON THE DOCKET:

  • Amicus Brief
  • Impeach Mayorkas
  • Supporting Mothers
  • What do you think?

THE BRIEF:

  • Republican House and Senate leaders filed an amicus brief in support of former President Donald Trump's case against the Colorado Supreme Court for removing him from the state's 2024 ballot.
  • Areas of TX-31 are experiencing loud booms that are shaking houses and rattling windows. KCENTV received confirmation from Fort Cavazos that there are "scheduled daytime and nighttime live-fire artillery and tank gunnery training from January 8 until March 3," which could be a reason why residents could be hearing "booms" more recently.
  • In a move I fully support, Texas officials have refused to comply with an order from the Biden administration to allow American border patrol agents to access a part of the US-Mexico border that is now under the state’s control.

AMICUS BRIEF

I joined Senator Cruz and Majority Leader Scalise in filing an amicus brief supporting President Trump in the Donald J. Trump v. Norma Anderson, et al. In this case, the Supreme Court will weigh in on whether former President Trump should remain on the Colorado ballot after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled he should be removed. Colorado's decision ignored precedent, encroached on Congress' power, and undermined America's democracy. The Supreme Court will hear this case in a few weeks, and I'll keep you updated on this critical topic.

IMPEACH MAYORKAS

This week, the House Homeland Security Committee held its second impeachment hearing into Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. I'm an early cosponsor of legislation to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for his dereliction of duty and failures at the southern border. Failures like the one that resulted in the death of Kayla Hamilton in 2022. Kayla's mom was on Capitol Hill this week to testify, and her testimony is heartbreaking for any parent to hear. I urge you to watch the testimony here.

SUPPORTING MOTHERS

This week, the House considered the Pregnant Students' Rights Act and the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act. The Pregnant Students' Rights Act requires colleges and universities to disseminate information on the rights and resources for expecting students to protect them against unfair practices. The Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act blocks a Biden rule that prohibits temporary assistance for needy families funding from going to pregnancy resource centers that support young women and their babies. I will always stand up to protect the innocent lives of the unborn and support mothers.

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK

Do you agree/disagree with the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling to remove Trump from the ballot?
Agree
Disagree

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district.

Representing you and Texas in the United States House is an honor and privilege.

Sincerely,

John R. Carter
