MY BILL TO PERMANENTLY REPEAL THE DEATH TAX The death tax represents double taxation at its worst. Iowa families grieving the loss of a loved one should not face an enormous tax bill from the federal government just to continue the family tradition of farming or keep their small business open and operational. I’m proud to lead 162 of my colleagues to permanently repeal the death tax, ensure that hardworking families, farmers, and small businesses keep more of their hard-earned money, and strengthen family-owned-and-operated enterprises in Iowa. FIGHTING TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY MORE LIKE IOWA AND LESS LIKE NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA In Iowa, we cut taxes, fund our police, and help secure the border. In New York and California, liberals raise taxes, defund the police, and support illegal immigration. I'm fighting to make our country more like Iowa and less like New York and California. Unfortunately, the Biden administration is working diligently to defund pregnancy resource centers by depriving them of their fair share of TANF funds. This is both unfair and infuriating. I’m proud to have voted for legislation to deliver exceptional maternal healthcare for women in need, protect innocent life, and stop President Biden’s partisan attempts to close every pregnancy center in rural Iowa. I’m proud to have voted for the HOME Act to ensure that every veteran has a safe place to call home because no veteran should be homeless in the United States. However, our nation’s foster care system faces enormous challenges towards achieving this goal. I introduced legislation to connect more children with foster families and support these amazing families. DEFENDING THE UNBORN AND STANDING UP FOR LIFE I’m honored to receive an A+ rating from SBA Pro-Life America for my work to protect the unborn, support Iowa families, and stop taxpayer-funded abortions. As a father of four and a Christian, I will continue to oppose President Biden’s abortion-on-demand agenda and stand for life. SECURING RELIEF FOR OUR DAIRY PRODUCERS This week, my colleague from Minnesota, Rep. Brad Finstad, and I led a letter to the USDA urging the Biden administration to swiftly open the sign-up period for American dairy farmers to enroll in the 2024 Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) program. Our dairy producers need certainty and relief now. Feenstra, 10 Republicans question signup delay for dairy ... U.S. Rep. ONE LAST THING: A DOCTOR IN SHENANDOAH DROVE HIS ATV THROUGH THE SNOWSTORM TO DELIVER A BABY! Last Friday, Dr. Chase Brown jumped on his four-wheeler to deliver a baby, knowing that was the only way he could make it to the hospital in time. The Gardner family - whose baby girl, Birkley, was delivered - report that she is completely healthy. What a great story and a blessing! From balancing the books and maintaining inventory to paying employees and complying with burdensome rules and regulations, these enterprises require long hours and real commitment to be successful and profitable. In Iowa, many of our farms and small businesses are family-owned-and-operated, which is not only a testament to the grit and dedication of our families, but also a source of pride for our great state. This also means that a death in the family – which is tragic and heartbreaking – has serious ramifications for the future of a family farm or business. Currently, when a family member passes away, the federal government imposes an unfair and costly tax on the transfer of property, land, and other assets from the deceased family member to heirs of family farms and small businesses. This tax – which is known as the estate tax or the death tax – represents double taxation at its worst. Iowa families grieving the loss of a loved one should not face an enormous tax bill from the federal government just to continue the family tradition of farming or keep their small business open and operational.
