Dear John,

Dr. Martin Luther King famously wrote in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail, "Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."As all of us here at MCV continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 throughout the state, we can't help but call upon Dr. King's words today. Our hearts go out to everyone, across Maine and our nation, because we're all in this crisis together.

First and foremost, here are resources from allies who are offering some great tools to cope with some of the challenges we are facing here in Maine:

Maine Equal Justice COVID-19 Resources [[link removed]] includes information on health care, food and financial security, evictions and court proceedings, and other resources, especially for those of you who are struggling to make ends meet or do not have access to health care.

Coastal Enterprises Inc has assembled a list of COVID-19 Business Resources [[link removed]] to navigate the financial, legal, and human resource challenges that local businesses are facing.

The Island Institute's Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resource Page [[link removed]] includes information and tools that may be useful in addressing some of the challenges related to distance learning, internet connectivity, online tools, and more.

During these difficult and uncertain times, staying connected with our loved ones and our community can be challenging. Here are some ways we'd like to help all of us stay connected.

Book Club: Social distancing is a crucially important public health measure that can slow the spread of the coronavirus and protect our communities. It also has the potential to leave many of us feeling lonely and disconnected—or to be the inspiration for us to connect in new ways.

That's why we are launching the Maine Conservation Distanced Book Club , and we hope you will join us. Over the coming weeks, we will read Jill Lepore’s masterpiece of American history, These Truths . With a discussion on These Truths , we can take this time of social distancing to reflect during an election year on what it means to be American and to learn a little more about what previous generations faced. Learn more and sign up by contacting Will at [email protected] [[email protected]] .

Finding solace in nature: While governmental suggestions urge us to social distance, we can — and should! — enjoy nature, given we still take precautions. We are so lucky to live in Maine where there is beauty all around us, especially with Spring making an early appearance this year. Hikes, bikes, a canoe ride, even a chilly swim. Feel free to send us your pictures and stories of how you're enjoying nature, safely, right now. We'll do our best to share on our social media channels to help keep people feeling connected to each other and the beautiful parts of our state.

Follow us on social media: We'll be updating our social media channels regularly with new information and (hopefully!) your photos and stories in the coming days and weeks. Follow us on Facebook [[link removed]] , Instagram [[link removed]] and Twitter [[link removed]] .

We hope you and your family are doing well, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

All our best,

--Rani and the MCV Team
