South Africa has brought a case against Israel in the Hague due to the
ongoing violence in Gaza. With all of the news coming out of the Hague, I
wanted to make it clear where I stand.
I believe the same thing I believed on Day 1 of this conflict: The path to
peace is diplomacy—not war.
I'm running for US Congress in IL-11 on the tenets of justice for all
people. That is why I have called for a ceasefire, an immediate release of
all hostages, and an end to the occupation and settlements from Day 1.
This requires upholding international human rights law, and demanding
justice and accountability for all parties involved—whether it's Hamas or
the Israeli government.
And to be sure, I have called for justice not just since October 7, but
for over a decade as a human rights lawyer. That is how we protect both
Israeli and Palestinian lives—both of which are sacred.
Sadly, my opponent Bill Foster still refuses to call for a ceasefire, and
instead continues to enable war as innocent people are killed. Hamas
killed 1,200 people and kidnapped approximately 250 more on October 7. The
response to war crimes is not more war crimes. Still, the Israeli military
has since killed 24,000 Palestinians—10,000 of them children. That is
beyond unacceptable.
We need leaders with the courage to demand justice for all. That is what I
have advocated for as a human rights lawyer for over a decade, and that is
my commitment to you as your next Congressman in Illinois' 11th District.
Let's get to work, because innocent people are suffering and dying, and
justice can't wait.
