Hi John - This is an uncertain and very challenging time and I hope that you, your loved ones, and communities are well and finding ways to cope with the new realities this pandemic presents.

The COVID-19 crisis has forced us at the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) to adjust how we work, but we remain committed to continuing to provide high-quality and life-saving legal services, advocate for humane policies and challenge inhumane ones, and keep our communities informed.

To protect the health and safety of our wonderful clients and incredible staff, NIJC has moved to mandatory remote work for staff and telephonic-only consultations with clients and those seeking our legal counsel.

Even in the midst of a crisis, the attacks don’t stop and our work to defend immigrant rights is as important as ever. We’re fighting against new policies that target immigrants and their families and endanger all in our communities. We’re proud to join nearly 800 organizations in urging the government to heed the recommendations of public health officials and release all individuals who are locked up in immigration jails with woefully inadequate medical care.

And even as we adapted to such rapid changes this week, NIJC’s legal team along with pro bono attorneys secured legal protection for four people, allowing them to leave detention and reunite with families and communities where they can be safe.

We are deeply grateful for your support of NIJC and are glad to fight for justice alongside you, even as our world faces an unprecedented challenge.

Please take care of yourself and those around you. Together, we know we will weather this crisis.

With gratitude,
Mary Meg McCarthy
